Announcing the 2009 First International Peace Songwriting Contest Awards
Dear Friends,
We are pleased to announce the winners of the First International Peace Songwriting Contest organized by the Peace Music Foundation. Despite the relatively short time span in which the contest was held, we have been honored to receive peace song submissions from all continents of the world. Although the widest participation came from songwriters currently residing in the United States, we received entries from such faraway places as, Israel, Afghanistan and Mumbai.
Due to the fact that so many fine songs were submitted, the assessment process took a bit longer than we had originally planned and it was quite challenging to select the top ten. In fact, we ended up having to include two additional winning entries because of a tie in scoring points. Even so, we felt many more songs were deserving of an award. Assessments of the songs were predicated on both compositional and lyric content.
We especially thank all musicians and lyricists who made the effort to participate in the contest and in our initiative to promote peace through music. On the basis of the winning entries, we will produce a CD and make this inspiring music available to the general public.
In addition, we wish to thank those who promoted the contest on their websites and helped us to receive worldwide participation. We will soon post all winning entries on our website (
www.peacemusicfoundation.org).
We look forward to continuing the contest on an annual basis, as well as sponsoring other projects that will further the objectives of the Peace Music Foundation.
Best wishes,
David Eaton
