Gustav Mahler: A Composer Only Conductors Love?

Mahler---A Composer Only Conductors Love This article was originally a review of concerts that took place in 2002 when in successive weeks the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebow Orchestra of Amsterdam appeared in New York. Both orchestras---Vienna under the direction of Riccardo Muti, and the RCO under Riccardo Chailly---performed Mahler symphonies on their programs, Nos. 4 and 5 respectively. Both ensembles have had long associations with Mahler’s music going back to his…See More

By the Numbers

By the Numbers“According to both the ancients and their Christian followers, the order of the creation was love, bound together in a unity both mathematical and musical. Indeed, love, divine order, music and mathematics are simply the four different ways of saying the same thing.”[1] I’ve always found this assertion by Catholic writer, E. Michael Jones, to be highly instructive. That sound and music have mathematical properties as well as a spiritual dimension is no longer considered the…See More

American Music

American Music In a very real way, American music is World Music. As a young musician I played in Jazz combos, big bands, symphony orchestras, concert bands, marching bands, Broadway show orchestras, rock bands, fusion bands, brass choirs, a blues band and even a Funk/Motown review band. Like most young people I listened to the "Top 40" on the radio and I loved the music of the Beatles, The Stones, The Supremes, the Four Seasons, The Four Tops, The Kinks, The Staples Singers as much as I did…See More

Peace Journey

PEACE JOURNEY

I just wanted to testify to the work of one of our new members, Jeannette Kravitz from Chicago. She and her husband have a cultural program (Peace Journey) that sends young artists to foreign countries for cultural activities with local artists. Her organization has quite a track record and I suggest you visit her website (www.peacejourney.com) It's very inspiring.

David, I think this is wonderful, and once the Holidays are over and things aren't quite so crazy, I would love to think how I can get this around to more people. Happy Holidays!!!!

David, good work on the site! l love this! Hope you like the tune. More to come. On another note, do you have any performances (big events) on the Horizon coming up locally? I am in contact with some amazing talent out here on the island.

Hi Mr. Eaton!
Well on my myspace I have 3 songs that I recorded last winter. I am going to record one more song hopefully by next week, although it wont be of any use to this site, I just really like the style of music, but I am going to upload it to my myspace.
I can think of one song that might be nice for this site though, if you want to check it out on my myspace. Its called Even God Can't Change the Past. It was originally done by Charlotte Church as a love song, but I've rewritten it.
I just wasn't sure if it really fit the purpose of this site. It's more about the heart of God rather than peace.
But if you have the time to check it out the link is on my peace profile.

Hey, thank you for the welcome. I will try to get you an mp3, but I really don't have anything recorded well as of now... if I do get a chance to do something soon, should I try to find a kind of up-lifty/world-peacey tune, or is any old love song okay???

Hi David!
Unfortunately not. Camerata Salzburg had an extensive America-Tour with Anne-Sophie Mutter, but just Bach on the program - no horns. In January I'll be in China: Macao, Shanghai and Beijing. We play Mozart (Divertimento in D K. 205 and Haydn (52nd symph.)
How was the Austrian Choir doing in London? Of course they are not professionals, but I'm sure did as best they could. Was it good enough?
Did you know Johannes Stampf befrore?
Hope to hear from you again soon.
Best wishes
Albert
